Massive: Intrinsic is the 7th installment in a series
of exhibitions that began in 2002 at SSNOVA in
Brighton, Cincinnati. The series continued when
SSNOVA became the Mockbee, and now the series has
moved to Mac's Farm and Sculpture Center in Blue Ash,
Cincinnati. Each of these exhibitions is currated and
produced by Christopher S. Daniel of Thin Air Studio.

The series began as an attempt to foster recognition
and appreciation of this city's vast number of
sculptors and installation artists. The title Massive
refers to the undertaking of such an attempt. Each
exhibition has had a subtitle that references the
theme of the show. A catalog is produced to accompany
the show, giving viewers more information about each
artist, their intent in creating work for the
exhibition, and a peek into their individual creative
process'. Most of the pieces in this show are site
specific installation works, but there are a few stand
alone sculptures. Each artist can interpret the theme
as they like, and each works in different media as
well.

One of the core missions of the Massive Exhibition
Series is to create an atmosphere where sculpting
professors, students, professionals, as well as
outsider artists, can come together to exchange ideas
and inspire each other. Not one of us can exist for
long in a vacuum, and Massive sets out to strengthen
the resolve and heart of the Sculpting community
through these exhibitions.

The Massive Exhibition Series also strives to foster
education to the community at large, through
interactive gallery talks with exhibiting artists.
The series exhibited for several years in the C.M.
Mockbee building under S.S. Nova and then The Mockbee,
Inc. It is my great pleasure to have found a new
venue here at Mac’s Farm and Sculpture Center .

The heart behind Mac’s Farm, Robert McConaughy has
been opening his doors to artists from all over the
region for 5 years now, striving in his own quiet way
to accomplish many of the same things the Massive
Exhibition Series has. We could not hope for a better
partnership.
